When Invisalign was introduced in 1999, it was marketed as a treatment for minor orthodontic issues. Due to the overwhelmingly positive response, Align Technologies continues to develop Invisalign. Now, 21 years later, Invisalign can effectively treat many complex orthodontic problems. If you are wondering, “Will Invisalign fix my overbite?” the answer is a resounding yes.

What Types of Things Can Invisalign Fix?

With advances in Invisalign technology, this tray alignment system can be useful in treating many alignment problems, including:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Open bite
  • Crossbite
  • Gap teeth
  • Crowded teeth

With the inclusion of Invisalign Teen and Invisalign First, orthodontists can now treat various issues in children as young as seven years old. While a child still has some primary (baby) teeth, early treatment can ease problems they may face as teens and into adulthood.

If you are curious about Invisalign treatment, contact Koch Orthodontics to set up a complimentary consultation. You can start with a Virtual Smile Assessment right now. After a complete examination, Dr. Koch will discuss all your available options for Invisalign treatment.

How Will Invisalign Fix My Overbite?

Invisalign works to correct alignment problems by gently shifting your teeth into the correct positions using a series of almost invisible tray aligners. A computer creates the alignment trays using 3D images from the iTero Element Scanner. The computer maps your smile from its current form and computes the necessary shifts to arrive at the final alignment.

A series of trays are manufactured, and you will wear each set of trays for approximately two weeks. Because the treatment is patient-centered, you will have fewer trips to the orthodontist’s office. You will receive several sets of trays at each visit (approximately every six to eight weeks).

Each set of trays will gently move your teeth into new positions. This successive movement works to realign your teeth the same way traditional braces do. The difference is that the tray aligners are almost invisible, while braces are apparent. Because you remove the trays for meals, you will have fewer dietary restrictions during treatment. Oral hygiene is also more comfortable during Invisalign treatment.

You may experience some minor discomfort when shifting to a new set of trays. An over-the-counter pain reliever is usually sufficient to ease the discomfort. Invisalign uses SmartTrack material. Each tray is custom-fit to your mouth, which makes Invisalign very comfortable compared to other orthodontic procedures.
