Finding an Invisalign doctor can be confusing. At Koch Orthodontics, Dr. Keith Koch understands the needs of his patients. He is at ease with young patients, teens, and adults and works to maintain an inviting office environment for families. Located in Geneseo, NY, Koch Orthodontics serves the entire Finger Lakes region.
Understanding How Invisalign Works
Invisalign is a tray alignment system making its first appearance in 1999. Since then, this nearly invisible treatment method has become increasingly popular. Align Technology continues to improve on and expand the Invisalign lineup. Invisalign Teen is a great option for teens that want a less conspicuous treatment than traditional braces.
Unlike traditional braces, which use metal brackets and wires to shift teeth, Invisalign uses trays that fit over a patient’s teeth. The trays work to gently shift teeth into proper alignment. Patients receive several sets of trays during each checkup appointment. This means fewer office visits and more patient-centered treatment.
During your first appointment, the doctor will take digital images of your teeth or create impressions. Then he will create a sequence of tray aligners. Patients switch to a new set of trays every two weeks. Each set works to move teeth into the correct positions gradually straightening the smile.
Although the trays should be in place for 20 to 22 hours every day, patients remove them for eating, drinking, and oral hygiene. This means there are no dietary restrictions. Brushing and flossing are easier too, as there are no brackets and wires to work around.
The Right Invisalign Doctor for Your Family
Align Technology trains and certifies all Invisalign providers. Dr. Koch is a certified provider with extensive training. Although Align Technology does offer Invisalign First for patients as young as seven, it is not commonly in use yet.
Invisalign is also not suitable for all teen and adult patients. Only an orthodontist can determine whether Invisalign will be effective. The standard treatment duration is from 12 to 24 months for most Invisalign users. Depending on the degree of correction necessary, your treatment period may be shorter or longer.
When searching for a family orthodontist, checking organizational memberships is one way to verify a doctor’s standing among their peers. Dr. Koch is a member of both the American Association of Orthodontists and the American Dental Association. He is also active with the Kiwanis Club of Geneseo and is active in the community where he lives with his wife and their child.
You will also be working with other staff members during your treatment. Dr. Koch and his entire team participate in continuing education seminars. This helps them stay up-to-date on current and new technology and procedures to improve patient care. Staff members are highly-trained and some have been with Dr. Koch for 20 years!
