Invisalign First™
Koch Orthodontics in Geneseo, NY uses InvisAlign First™ to Start Young Smiles on a Healthy Path!
If you’ve been intrigued by Invisalign clear aligners as a way to straighten your smile in less time than traditional braces, you’re probably aware that Invisalign is available to adults, and in a “Teen” application for teenage orthodontic patients. BUT – did you also know that now Invisalign is also available for young children?
It’s true, it’s effective, and Koch Orthodontics is utilizing it!
What is Invisalign First?
Invisalign First aligners are specifically made to address the orthodontic needs of growing kids! These clear aligners create space in the mouth and in doing so, help facilitate the natural eruption of the adult teeth. If a young child’s teeth and jaws exhibit:
- Crowding
- An overbite or an overjet
- A deep bite
- A crossbite
- Spacing issues
- Airway issues
- Arch development issues
…then they may be a candidate for Invisalign First’s effective and revolutionary aligner system. What makes the Invisalign First system particularly unique is its ability to address several concerns/orthodontic issues at once. At the same time, the aligners accommodate a child’s natural course of losing their baby teeth with the eruption of their permanent teeth.
How Does Invisalign First Work?
The team at Koch Orthodontics utilizes safe and contemporary imaging technology to take high quality images of the child’s mouth, teeth and jaws, which are used to craft a unique aligner system to get these young smiles on the right path to a lifetime of optimal oral health!
We review aligner wear, cleaning, and diet protocol with both the young patient and their parent or guardian. As with any Invisalign treatment, success is dependent on wear compliance – the more the child wears their aligners as prescribed, the greater the treatment stays on track to a successful conclusion. Invisalign First is a great way to teach our young patients about responsibility and goal setting while we work as a team to straighten their smile!
How Many Hours Per Day Will My Child Wear Their Invisalign First aligners?
Invisalign First aligners for kids must be worn 20 to 22 hours per day. The aligners should only be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing. When they are not in your child’s mouth, the aligners should be kept securely in their carrying case.
Are there Any Food Restrictions During Treatment with Invisalign First?
Since the aligners are removeable, there are less restrictions comparable to treatment with metal braces. However, sugary gooey candy and drinks high in sugar and fructose corn syrup are still “Public Enemy Number 1” and should be avoided in the interest of keeping the treatment on track. The acid on your teeth after consuming a sugary drink can “well” in aligner trays and cause problems down the road. Read more about this topic here. Not our intention to police your child’s diet – but, dilligence here goes a long way!
Remember to brush and floss thoroughly after every meal!
Do Invisalign First Aligners Hurt?
We appreciate that every child’s threshold for discomfort may be different, but the overall consensus is that wearing Invisalign First aligners is not painful. It may take some time for a young patient to get acclimated with something new in their mouth, but most kids who have undergone a successful ” Invisalign First” treatment will declare these aligners a comfortable fit and easy to insert and remove!
Is My Child a Candidate For Invisalign First?
The sure way to know is to schedule a complimentary exam with Koch Orthodontics! The target age group for Invisalign First is approximately 6 to 10, well before all the child’s permanent teeth have developed and erupted into the arches. A referral from a general family dentist is welcomed, but not necessary. During the exam, we’ll be looking for signs of the common orthodontic issues above to determine if Invisalign First is the right fit for your child’s smile!
